Secret Spring Elopement in the Smoky Mountains – Julie and Curt

Secret Spring Elopement in the Smoky Mountains

Julie and Curt – May 13, 2026

There’s something incredibly romantic about a secret spring elopement. No pressure. No giant guest list. No months of explaining plans to everyone around you. Just two people deciding they’re ready to start forever together — quietly, intentionally, and completely on their own terms.

That’s exactly what Julie and Curt chose when they traveled to Chapel in the Hollow for their intimate Smoky Mountain elopement.

And honestly? It was magical.

They asked us to keep their wedding teasers under wraps until they made it home so they could share the exciting news with family and friends themselves — which somehow made the whole day feel even sweeter. There was this beautiful little bubble of excitement surrounding them all day long, like they were carrying the happiest secret in the world.

Their wedding was quiet, joyful, romantic, and full of those little in-between moments that make intimate weddings so meaningful.

A Secret Smoky Mountain Elopement Full of Spring Color

Julie and Curt chose a gorgeous spring palette for their ceremony décor, dressing the chapel in navy and white fabric paired with red florals.

Against the backdrop of the fresh East Tennessee greenery, the colors absolutely popped.

Spring in the Smokies has a very specific kind of beauty. The forests begin waking back up after winter, and suddenly everything feels alive again — bright greens, soft mountain air, and that peaceful calm before the busy summer season arrives.

The red florals brought warmth and richness to the chapel while the navy accents added a timeless elegance that felt romantic without being overly formal.

Julie also personalized her bouquet by adding faux white and blue florals, creating something uniquely hers while tying together the whole color palette beautifully.

One of the best parts of planning a smaller wedding or elopement is having the freedom to make personal choices like that. Every detail feels intentional because it actually matters to the couple — not because tradition says it should.

A Bride with Romantic Spring Style

Julie looked absolutely stunning.

She wore a long-sleeved gown from Baltic Born with the sweetest fluffy details that gave the dress so much personality and texture. It felt soft, whimsical, and perfect for a cool spring wedding in the woods.

Her look balanced elegance and comfort beautifully — something we see more and more couples prioritizing during intimate weddings and elopements.

She paired the gown with unique wooden shoes from Veldheers Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, adding another playful and personal detail to the day.

Julie handled her own hair and makeup, and the result was effortlessly beautiful. Her whole look fit the atmosphere of the wedding perfectly: relaxed, romantic, and genuine.

Relaxed Country Charm for the Groom

Curt looked equally handsome in a combination that perfectly matched the tone of the day.

He wore jeans, a dress shirt, and a vest — polished enough for the occasion while still feeling relaxed and authentic. It’s one of the things we love most about Smoky Mountain elopements: couples feel free to dress in ways that actually reflect who they are instead of feeling boxed into expectations.

And when Julie walked down the aisle by herself?

Curt’s face absolutely lit up.

The second he saw her, he broke into the biggest smile, and from that moment forward, the two of them looked completely wrapped up in each other. The joy between them was impossible to miss.

Why Couples Choose Secret Elopements

Over the last few years, we’ve seen more and more couples choosing secret elopements or private ceremonies in the Smoky Mountains.

And honestly, we completely understand why.

Sometimes couples want to:

  • Avoid wedding stress
  • Keep the focus on their relationship
  • Plan something spontaneous
  • Save money for travel or a home
  • Celebrate privately before telling everyone
  • Escape family pressure or expectations
  • Create an experience that feels truly personal

Secret elopements create space for couples to actually experience their wedding day together without distraction.

Julie and Curt’s wedding had exactly that energy. Peaceful. Excited. Intentional. Full of quiet happiness.

Exploring the Property for Portraits

After the ceremony, we spent time wandering around some of our favorite spots on the property for portraits.

One of the things couples love most about Chapel in the Hollow is that there are so many beautiful locations packed into one intimate forest property.

For Julie and Curt’s portraits, we explored:

  • The chapel itself
  • The mossy tree
  • The vintage truck
  • The open field with mountain views

The spring greens were absolutely vibrant that day, creating the dreamiest natural backdrop imaginable.

The field was especially beautiful. East Tennessee in spring has this soft freshness to it — the mountains glowing in the distance, cool breezes moving through the trees, and sunlight filtering through new leaves.

It’s the kind of scenery that makes you slow down and soak everything in.

Julie and Curt were completely relaxed together during portraits, laughing, holding hands, and just enjoying finally being married.

That’s the beauty of intimate weddings. There’s time to breathe.

From the Bride:

We met on a dating app! I (Julie) had been through some really rotten dates and was ready to be single. Something about Curt and his profile made me decide to give it one last try. We started chatting instantly and met about a week later at a park. Everything just felt so natural-like we had been friends forever. We have so much in common, similar upbringings, and he has the best family who welcomed my teen girls and I with open arms. I am truly grateful that I did not give up dating or I may not have found the most amazing person to share life with.

He met me at a local park for our first meeting with his German Shepherd (who I was scared of and is now my best friend!) We just walked and talked and instantly connected. For our first official date, we walked on the pier and grabbed dinner by the water. West Michigan has a ton of great date spots!

Our birthdays are 2 days apart in the dead of winter and we got engaged in the hot tub after a great day of exploring northern Michigan. Curt actually proposed in the kitchen of our new home 6 months prior in June of 2024 and unfortunately I wasn’t ready. We had just bought a house together and were in the process of remodeling and selling mine. It was such a stressful and busy time. But when the following January rolled around, I felt ready and asked him if he would still be mine forever. I secretly bought him a ring that he would love. He said yes!

I have been to the Smokies by myself several times in the past and while researching the map for our vacation, I stumbled upon Chapel in the Hollow. It got the wheels turning for a fun elopement surprise!

We are going to be on vacation for the week, and this whole elopement will be a surprise to Curt. I am looking forward to him finding out about our big day the day before. I felt terrible that I wasn’t ready to be engaged in 2024 and I feel that this is my way to make it up to him. We have been together for 3 years and he is more than ready to get married. He will be thrilled that he doesn’t have to worry or plan a thing! I had to pack very strategically!

We love to go on weekend road trips together, find new BBQ places to try, and hang out with family by the fire. We are going camping together for the first time this summer so that will be a new adventure to add to marriage!
