Relaxed Midweek Smoky Mountain Elopement
Claire and AJ – May 12, 2026
Spring weekdays in the Smoky Mountains have a quiet kind of magic, and Claire and AJ’s weekday elopement at Chapel in the Hollow was the perfect reminder of why so many couples are choosing intimate midweek weddings in East Tennessee. Surrounded by fresh spring greenery, peaceful forest views, and the relaxed atmosphere that comes with a weekday celebration, their wedding day felt joyful, emotional, and completely centered around the two of them.
The Smoky Mountains in spring are always beautiful, but weekday weddings bring an extra level of calm to the experience. The slower pace allowed Claire and AJ to truly soak in every part of the day, from getting ready to exploring the property together for portraits after the ceremony. The soft greens filling back into the trees and the gentle mountain light filtering through the forest created the dreamiest backdrop for their intimate wedding day.
A Romantic Woodland Wedding Style
Claire and AJ chose to decorate the chapel with white fabric paired with Chapel in the Hollow’s wildflower florals and fern wreaths. The combination created a fresh woodland aesthetic that blended perfectly with the natural beauty of the East Tennessee forest. The soft white details against the vibrant greenery gave the entire ceremony space an airy and romantic feel while still keeping everything relaxed and nature-inspired.
Claire looked absolutely stunning in a sleeveless white gown with delicate floral embroidery that fit the spring forest setting beautifully. One of the standout details of her bridal look was her embroidered veil, which caught the sunlight perfectly throughout their portraits around the property. Her overall bridal style felt elegant, soft, and effortlessly timeless while still matching the easygoing atmosphere of their weekday elopement.
AJ looked sharp in a grey suit paired with a patterned tie that added just enough personality to complement the relaxed vibe of the day. Together, the two looked perfectly suited for a romantic Smoky Mountain forest wedding surrounded by nature.
A Sweet and Emotional Ceremony
One of the sweetest moments of the day happened as Claire walked down the aisle toward AJ. His face immediately lit up with excitement the moment he saw her approaching. Honestly, he looked especially excited to finally get his ring too, which brought such a fun and genuine energy to the ceremony. Those little unscripted reactions are often the moments couples treasure most from their wedding day.
During the ceremony, Claire and AJ exchanged personal vows, making the experience feel even more meaningful and intimate. Claire became emotional while reading hers, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight for a moment. At the same time, the two kept laughing and smiling throughout the ceremony, creating the perfect balance of heartfelt emotion and joy.
That balance is one of the reasons couples love choosing a weekday elopement in the Smoky Mountains. Without the stress and pressure of a large traditional wedding timeline, couples are able to focus fully on each other and enjoy the experience together. Weekday elopements often offer quieter travel days, more peaceful photo sessions, and a slower pace overall, allowing couples to actually be present during their wedding day instead of feeling rushed from one event to the next.
Exploring the Property for Smoky Mountain Wedding Photos
After the ceremony, we explored several of Chapel in the Hollow’s favorite portrait locations around the property. Claire and AJ wandered through the chapel area, the archway, the winding road, the creek, the open field, and the highland area while we captured portraits surrounded by the soft spring greenery.
The fresh East Tennessee landscape made every location feel magical. The field offered beautiful mountain views while the wooded areas gave their portraits a cozy, romantic atmosphere. The creek and road provided some especially fun moments as the two laughed, joked, and simply enjoyed spending time together throughout the session.
Honestly, one of the best parts of the entire day was simply hanging out with Claire and AJ. Between conversations about books, whiskey, and nonstop joking during portraits, their wedding day felt relaxed and authentic in the best possible way. Their elopement was such a good reminder that weddings do not have to be overly formal or stressful to feel deeply meaningful. Sometimes the most unforgettable days are the ones where couples are simply allowed to be themselves together.

From the Bride
We met in grad school where we were in the same program. We bonded over our mutual love of science, whiskey, and game of thrones. When Covid hit and closed down on site work we were able to take a step back from our studies and really get to know each other. Since then our life has been an adventure. We hung out as friends for the longest time, and then he asked me to be his plus one at a wedding.
Who proposed – Now that’s a story! We went camping at a state park near Houston with the dogs. We had a lovely day of hiking and enjoyed our meals over the fire. The next day we moved our camp site to Bolivar beach. Where we laughed and hand a wonderful day together on the beach. That evening we made a fire and cooked. The sun went down and the stars were shining bright on one of the clearest nights I had seen. While listening to the waves on the beach, he said my name and I turned around to see him down on one knee. We’ve been together for 7 years and we had always talked about getting married but nothing can adequately describe how magical that moment was. We lived in Greenville, South Carolina for a while and enjoy the mountains. The Smokies are a newer area for us but the pictures made it seem like the perfect place. We are looking forward to getting married. Also we have grown so much as individuals and in our relationship. We are looking forward to celebrating that love and spending time just for us.
We are both very passionate about what we do. We are both biomedical researchers (PhDs) just trying to make the world at least a little bit better for the people in it. We enjoy hiking, fishing, exploring new places and spending time with friends.
