Some wedding days are about grand celebrations, while others are about the people who matter most. Shannan and Rusty’s intimate family wedding at Chapel in the Hollow was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful moments often happen in the company of your closest loved ones. Surrounded by their three daughters and nestled in the peaceful forests of East Tennessee, they created a day that was heartfelt, emotional, and filled with unforgettable memories.
For couples searching for an intimate family wedding in the Smoky Mountains, their celebration is the perfect example of how a small wedding can be every bit as meaningful as a large one. Chapel in the Hollow specializes in outdoor micro weddings and intimate ceremonies, offering couples a private woodland setting where love and family take center stage.
The couple chose a timeless color palette of cream and dusty blue for the chapel décor. Cream and dusty blue fabric paired beautifully with our dusty blue and yellow florals, creating a classic yet welcoming atmosphere beneath the towering trees. The soft colors blended perfectly with the lush East Tennessee forest, giving the ceremony space an elegant and romantic feel.
Shannan looked absolutely stunning in a strapless wedding gown featuring a short train and a modern slit that perfectly balanced elegance with contemporary style. Rusty kept his look classic with black pants and a crisp white dress shirt, proving that simple attire can be incredibly sophisticated. Together, they looked effortlessly timeless.
Their three daughters added even more sweetness to the celebration. The two older girls wore flowing dusty blue dresses that complemented the wedding colors beautifully, while the youngest stole hearts in an adorable fluffy white dress. Watching the girls together throughout the day made it clear that this wedding wasn’t simply about two people getting married—it was about celebrating the joining of an entire family.
One of the most touching moments happened before the ceremony even began. Rather than giving Rusty a traditional first look with the bride, the girls walked down the aisle together to surprise their dad. His emotional reaction set the tone for the entire day. When Shannan made her entrance moments later, the smile on Rusty’s face said everything words couldn’t.
During the ceremony, emotions continued to overflow. As they exchanged personal vows, Rusty became visibly emotional, struggling to hold back tears as he promised forever to the woman he loves. Then came one of the most memorable moments of the day: Shannan shared vows not only with Rusty but also with their daughters. She promised to love, support, and cherish each of them as they continued building their family together. There wasn’t a dry eye among the guests, and it beautifully illustrated that marriage is about creating a home filled with love, trust, and commitment.
After the ceremony, everyone gathered for family portraits before exploring the property for romantic portraits of the newlyweds. We visited several of Chapel in the Hollow’s favorite photography locations, including the bridal suite, the quiet country road, and the open field overlooking the mountains. As the afternoon transitioned into evening, warm golden sunlight poured across the landscape, creating the dreamy glow photographers hope for. Every portrait captured the joy, excitement, and deep connection Shannan and Rusty share.
One detail that deserves its own spotlight was Shannan’s custom Converse sneakers. Personalized with her new last name on the sides, the phrase“Forever isn’t long enough” written along the soles, and“Just Married” hidden on the bottoms, they perfectly reflected the couple’s playful personalities while adding a unique touch to the wedding day. Personal details like these help make every micro wedding feel completely one-of-a-kind.
Although the East Tennessee summer brought warm temperatures and plenty of humidity, nothing could overshadow the happiness surrounding this incredible family. Every smile, embrace, and happy tear served as a reminder that intimate weddings allow couples to truly focus on what matters most—celebrating love with the people who mean everything to them.
If you’re dreaming of an intimate family wedding in Tennessee, a Smoky Mountain micro wedding, or an outdoor forest wedding where your loved ones can be part of every meaningful moment, Chapel in the Hollow offers a peaceful woodland setting designed specifically for celebrations just like this. Whether you’re including children in your ceremony, writing personalized family vows, or simply looking for a relaxed and beautiful place to say“I do,” our little chapel in the woods provides the perfect backdrop for creating lifelong memories.
Congratulations again to Shannan and Rusty! We wish your beautiful family many years filled with love, laughter, adventures, and countless happy memories together.
From the Bride
We met in a room full of recovering alcoholics and addicts. He gave me his phone number in case I needed it and I left it and walked away. (I later picked it up) I was lost and trying to stay clean, struggling deeply with my addiction and he was a friend and someone to lean on. He helped when I needed it and had no one else. We started “hanging out” because I totaled my vehicle and needed rides to work at 11pm. We started texting until 2am every night. He finally asked me on a date and we got lunch. He raved about the steak salad.
Rusty proposed to me at a restaurant i had talked about always wanting to go to, but never did. He was shaking like a leaf the entire night so I knew something was up with him. He presented me the ring (did not get down on one knee) but did ask me if I would be his wife. I said Yes on December 16th 2022. We decided to get married in the Smoky Mountains because he has been out there before, and I never have. He raves about how beautiful it is, I cannot wait to see it for the first time, married to my best friend. We are looking for to the scenery, the quietness of the mountains. Being fully present with my favorite people! We love to go on a motorcycle ride, a gun range, or a concert!!
