Gothic Forest Wedding – Lauren and Tyler

Gothic Forest Wedding in the Smokies | Dark & Dreamy “I Do”

Lauren and Tyler – October 11, 2025

Looking for inspiration for your own gothic forest wedding? Prepare to swoon.
Lauren and Tyler’s October ceremony at Chapel in the Hollow in the Smoky Mountains was the epitome of dark romance meets woodland magic. From candlelit vows to moody portraits among mossy trees, their intimate micro wedding brought all the vibes — and then some.
If you’re planning a nontraditional wedding that leans more Poe than pastel, this one’s for you.

Why Chapel in the Hollow is Perfect for a Gothic Wedding

Nestled deep in the East Tennessee woods near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Chapel in the Hollow is the destination for couples who crave a mystical forest setting.
Unlike traditional venues, this outdoor micro wedding space offers:
  • Privacy in the woods, perfect for an intimate, enchanted vibe
  • Customizable decor with fabric draping, florals, candles, and lanterns
  • Onsite coordination to make the day seamless
  • Iconic photo spots like the mossy tree, gate cliff, and creekside trail
  • A fast 3-day turnaround from Star Noir Studio for your wedding photos
It’s no wonder couples like Lauren and Tyler choose it for their elopements and micro weddings — especially when leaning into a theme like gothic elegance.

Setting the Scene: All Black Everything

Lauren and Tyler kept things gorgeously minimal, letting their aesthetic shine.
The chapel was draped in black fabric, with no florals — just the candle and lantern package casting a golden glow. The result? A hauntingly beautiful backdrop that allowed their style and emotion to take center stage.
This look proves that sometimes, less really is more — especially when working with a palette of black, gold, and natural forest tones. Interested in replicating the mood? Check out our decor packages for inspiration.

Gothic Bride Goals: Lauren’s Bridal Look

Lauren embodied modern gothic goddess from head to toe.
She wore a sleek, spaghetti strap satin gown with a soft train that trailed beautifully behind her as she walked through the woods. Her hair was curled softly and styled to one side — giving off vintage-meets-modern energy — and a lace-edged veil completed her look with timeless flair.
Her jewelry was just as intentional: a marquis-cut diamond ring set in gold, paired with a vintage four-stone gold band that she and Tyler discovered together. It was the perfect symbol of their shared style and love of meaningful detail.
Before the ceremony, her mom helped her get ready in the bridal prep area — a sweet, emotional moment. Lauren also shared a first look with her father, who proudly walked her down the aisle beneath the trees.

Gothic Groom Vibes: Tyler’s Classic Black-on-Black

Tyler matched the energy with head-to-toe black — a black suit, vest, shirt, and tie combo that felt equal parts elegant and edgy.
His wedding band? A gold ring with a wood inlay, bringing a touch of nature into his style and subtly tying in with the forest around them. The rich tones of his ring and Lauren’s jewelry popped beautifully against the candlelight.
If you’re looking for ways to infuse personality into your elopement without going over-the-top, this couple nailed it — classic silhouettes, personal heirlooms, and unmistakable gothic style.

Moody Portraits in the Forest

After their emotional ceremony, we captured family photos at the chapel before heading off into the woods for a portrait session filled with moody light and magical backdrops.
Lauren and Tyler hit up several of our most photogenic locations:
  • The mossy tree, always a favorite for couples who want that “enchanted forest” vibe
  • The new cemetery photo spot (yes — it’s as cool and spooky as it sounds )
  • The gate cliff, for romantic shots framed by nature
  • The road, with a foggy, cinematic feel
  • And the creek, where the filtered light and water reflections made for a dreamy end to the session
Photographer Star Noir Studio captured the intensity, intimacy, and elegance of their day — with sneak peeks ready in 24 hours and full galleries delivered within 3 days. (Yes, really!)

October in East Tennessee = Peak Gothic Wedding Season

There’s something about fall in the Smokies that just hits different — especially for a wedding like this.
October brings:
  • Crisp forest air
  • Rich golden light
  • A natural color palette of greens, browns, and deep shadows
  • And the perfect excuse to lean into your spooky, witchy, or dark academia wedding dreams
Plus, our Graveyard photo spot is especially fun this time of year.
From the Bride
We met at work! We were in the same project. We were pipe welders for the local 234 pipefitters union at the time. He complained about getting stuck with the new welder girl (before we met) to an apprentice- who then joked with Tyler that I could possibly turn out to be his wife some day, and here we are!! Our first date was wonderful. We got arepas and talked all night. He was a perfect gentlemen. We spoke about our families and our values and our childhoods. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
We were laying in bed and Tyler told me he was going to marry me. I ask if I had any say and he said no I was stuck with him which I was fine with me. So I picked out a ring and told him I wanted it. He told me to tell him when and where to be, and we would be married :)! I have had Chapel in the Hollow picked out for a long time! I was looking for a friend and fell in love with it for myself after she decided on something else. We can’t wait to become husband and wife and joining our families.
We like to hike and explore. We enjoy the outdoors and anything we can do to stay outside. We both love to cook and eat! And find new places to try.
