It was one of the most genuine emotional reactions we’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing.

If Adam’s reaction wasn’t enough to make everyone emotional, their vows certainly were. They had written their own promises to one another. As they began reading, it quickly became clear that this wasn’t simply about saying “I do.” It was about acknowledging everything life had thrown at them. The heartache. The growth. The forgiveness. The lessons learned. And the incredible gift of finding each other again. Both of them cried through nearly every word.

We may have gotten a little misty-eyed ourselves.

It wasn’t sadness. It was gratitude. You could feel the history between them in every sentence. Their ceremony reminded us that love isn’t always simple—but sometimes the most beautiful relationships are the ones that have weathered storms together.

One of our favorite things about intimate weddings is watching couples fully embrace who they are. Kayla and Adam never tried to create someone else’s version of a wedding. They created theirs. There were no unnecessary traditions. No expectations to meet. No pressure to perform. Just two people promising forever in a way that felt genuine. We wandered through several of our favorite portrait locations around the property.

The archway framed them beautifully as the forest surrounded them with vibrant greenery.

Next came our cemetery photo area—a location that fit their aesthetic perfectly without ever feeling overly theatrical. The contrast between the dramatic surroundings and the joy on their faces created some incredibly memorable portraits.

From there we headed into the open field, where the Smoky Mountain views stretched into the distance, offering a softer contrast to the darker mood of the ceremony.

Finally, we explored one of our quiet country roads, where towering trees and filtered light wrapped everything in peaceful stillness.

Every location felt like another chapter in their story.

From the Groom: 

I was 18 she was 16. The town we lived in didn’t have crap together so everyone just made laps and hung out at the “Black Lot.” On some random Tuesday (the summer of my senior year, her junior), her overlord of a mom finally let her come out. She was allowed to go with a mutual friend of ours who was in love with one of my best friends. So I’m in the lot strutting around when they pull in and park in that bright ass yellow cavalier. Her friend hollered at me, so I walked over there (thinking in my head I don’t know why you think I can make Nathan date you). I am so glad that I did because as I get close to window I see Kayla, scared to death with these big ole glasses on. I was like who is that? I can see that she is nervous so I’m trying to be smooth so I can talk to her. She looks over at me one time, but that one time I look in her eyes and was melted 🫠. Seeing that long beautiful red hair and those eyes had me. I didn’t see her again for 4 years until she started at Cracker Barrel. She started when I was off. The day I came back, I saw my angel again. This time she was not as nervous looking at me, but I was scared….Like oh my gosh how I can not mess this up. We locked eyes off and on all night, but one time we passed, and we touched hands. In that moment, I felt alive, lightning all through my body. After that, it was a wrap – we were inseparable. My love 💓.
