20-Year Vow Renewal in the Smoky Mountains
Katrina and Joe – July 1, 2026
Twenty years after promising forever, Katrina and Joe returned to the aisle—not because they had to, but because they wanted to celebrate everything that had happened since those first two words: “I do.”
Their 20-year vow renewal at Chapel in the Hollow wasn’t about recreating their wedding day. It was about honoring the life they had built together through two decades of marriage, raising a family, overcoming challenges, celebrating victories, and choosing one another every single day.
Nestled among the trees in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, their intimate celebration was filled with heartfelt moments, meaningful family involvement, and reminders that love doesn’t stop growing after the wedding day—it simply changes, deepens, and becomes something even more extraordinary.
Why Celebrate a 20-Year Vow Renewal?
Wedding anniversaries are worth celebrating, but milestone anniversaries often call for something even more special.
A 20-year vow renewal gives couples the opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything they’ve accomplished together. It’s a chance to remember where your journey began while looking ahead to the adventures still waiting around the corner.
Unlike a wedding, there’s no pressure to follow traditions or expectations. A vow renewal can be as formal or as relaxed as you want it to be. Some couples invite dozens of family members and friends, while others keep things intimate with only their closest loved ones.
For Katrina and Joe, family was at the heart of everything.
A Forest Chapel Filled with Timeless Elegance
For their celebration, they transformed our forest chapel into an elegant woodland setting using rich blue fabric paired with our white florals. Succulent wreaths lined the pews, adding natural texture while blending beautifully with the surrounding East Tennessee forest.
The color palette felt timeless.
The blue created a peaceful backdrop against the lush summer greenery, while the white florals added softness and classic romance. It was understated without feeling simple—a perfect reflection of a couple who had already spent twenty years proving that true love doesn’t need extravagance to be beautiful.
One of the things we love most about hosting vow renewals is seeing couples relax and simply enjoy being together. Without the whirlwind that often comes with planning a first wedding, there’s room to slow down and truly soak in each moment.
Walking Through Life Side by Side
One of our favorite moments happened before the ceremony even began.
Instead of one partner waiting at the altar while the other walked down the aisle, Katrina and Joe chose to walk together.
It was a simple decision, but one filled with symbolism.
Twenty years ago, they began walking through life together.
Now, twenty years later, they were doing exactly the same thing.
There was something incredibly fitting about beginning this chapter shoulder to shoulder.
Still Looking at Each Other the Same Way
Katrina looked absolutely stunning in an ornately beaded gown that shimmered beautifully in the East Tennessee light. Her dress struck the perfect balance between elegant and celebratory, proving that bridal style has no expiration date.
Joe looked equally handsome in dress pants, a crisp dress shirt, and tie, creating a timeless look that perfectly complemented the occasion.
But more than their outfits, what stood out most was the way they looked at one another.
After two decades together, the excitement was still there.
The smiles.
The laughter.
The quiet glances.
The kind of comfort that only comes from years of choosing each other again and again.
Those are the moments that make anniversary celebrations so incredibly meaningful.
A Ceremony Filled with Family
One of the biggest themes throughout their vow renewal was family.
Their youngest son served as the master of ceremonies, making the event even more personal and emotional. Watching children participate in their parents’ vow renewal is always incredibly moving because they’re living reminders of the promises made years earlier.
Marriage grows.
Families grow.
And sometimes the greatest testimony to a relationship is standing right there beside you.
During the ceremony, Joe surprised Katrina with a beautiful new diamond band to add to her wedding set.
It wasn’t simply another piece of jewelry.
It represented twenty years of shared memories, commitment, growth, and love.
After exchanging the ring, they shared heartfelt vows that reflected not only who they had been as newlyweds, but who they had become after building a life together.
Those words carried a different weight than wedding vows often do.
They weren’t promises about what might come.
They were promises spoken by two people who had already weathered life together—and still couldn’t wait for what came next.
Honoring the Past While Celebrating the Present
After the ceremony, we spent time capturing family portraits around the chapel before photographing two of their sons alongside their significant others. One of the beautiful things about anniversary celebrations is seeing how one marriage can grow into an entire family legacy. The photos became more than portraits. They became a visual timeline of everything that had grown from two people saying “yes” twenty years earlier.
Returning to the Tractor
One of the most meaningful stops during portrait time wasn’t planned because it looked pretty. It was planned because it meant something. We stopped by our vintage tractor because tractors had been part of their original wedding, which took place on Joe’s father’s farm. We absolutely love when couples incorporate little pieces of their story into their portraits. Those details transform beautiful photos into deeply personal memories. Standing beside the tractor allowed them to reconnect with where their journey began while celebrating where it had taken them.
Chasing Mountain Views
From there, we headed to one of our favorite portrait locations—the mountain overlook. The Smoky Mountains stretched across the horizon while warm summer light settled over the landscape. Although it was a hot and humid East Tennessee afternoon, Katrina and Joe never stopped smiling. The joy between them made every photograph feel effortless. We finished the session along one of our quiet country roads, surrounded by towering trees and peaceful scenery that perfectly reflected the calm confidence of a love that’s been nurtured over twenty years.

Twenty Years Down, Forever to Go
Some weddings celebrate the beginning of a story.
Vow renewals celebrate everything that came after.
Katrina and Joe’s 20-year vow renewal reminded us that marriage isn’t defined by one beautiful day—it’s built through thousands of ordinary ones. Through family dinners, road trips, hard conversations, celebrations, quiet evenings, and every moment in between.
Watching them laugh together, walk hand in hand, and smile at one another after twenty years was a beautiful reminder that love doesn’t lose its magic with time.
Sometimes, it becomes even more extraordinary.
Katrina and Joe, thank you for allowing us to celebrate this incredible milestone with you. We wish you many more years of laughter, adventure, and unwavering love—and we hope the next twenty years are every bit as beautiful as the first.
