Joe and Cheryl – June 14, 2021
Vow Renewal
Cheryl and Joe celebrated 10 years married by having a vow renewal with us. They did something we haven’t seen before and wrote their own vows to deliver to each other without an officiant–super sweet!! These two were soooo adorable together. Congratulations, Cheryl and Joe!! May you have many more happy years togther.
From the Bride:
Mutual friends held a friendsgiving and I think Joe could tell I didn’t know many people there because he came over and said “Hi, I’m Joe.” “Hi. I’m Cheryl.” And then I thought… Wasn’t I supposed to meet a Joe all year and really like him?? Our friend had tried to no avail to set us up, but it turns out, randomly meeting at the turkey feast was the way to go! I purposely sat next to him during dinner and that’s where I busted out the famous line of “It’s a good thing I wore my buffet pants.” Hook. Line. And sinker… He fell in love. I mean, how could he not?! He came to my Aunt’s house the next evening to help me celebrate passing my real estate exam and the rest, as they say, is history.
I knew he was a poor college kid, so I made the first move and asked him out. I also was poor, so I spent the day cleaning my friends apt and then we prepped a meal together. Little did I know… Our mutual friend told me right before the date that he had gone to culinary school. Talk about nerve racking!! We ate dinner with my best friend of 20yrs, and he survived the test and didn’t feel like running away after. We then met 5 friends at a local bar and grill to hang out a bit.
Joe proposed in the most perfect location and perfect way! We went out to my family’s lake house and walked down to the dock at sunset. He wasn’t really listening to what I was saying, which I thought was odd, but oh well. And then we walked off the dock (he was scared the ring would fall in the water) and turned around and started saying mushy things. After each sentence, I interrupted with a small kiss and a “Oh, me too, babe”.. And after the third time I interrupted him, I realized his hands were clammy, he seemed rigid and definitely nervous. That’s when it hit me- OH My gosh! He’s proposing and I’m totally ruining it! He finally got to finish the proposal, interruption free, and then started to get down on his knee.. Mid kneel, he realized he needed to get the ring out of his pocket, so he was fighting that and feeling flustered. He finally got the ring and opened the box and got to his knee and because he had been flustered, blurted out “Well, Will you?” And I am the meanest because this was my one and only proposal in life..I wanted the full question!! So I said “Will I what?” Lol. “Will you marry me?!” YESSS!!!
We wanted to go to Europe or Canada for our ten year, but with covid, we were unsure of what 2021 would bring. We LOVED our trip to Gatlinburg in the fall of 2016 and was a symbolic trip of us reconnecting after our son was born. We love hiking and being in nature. When I was looking up things to do, the Chapel in the Hollow popped up and I thought- we always talked about renewing our vows. This would be the most romantic beautiful place!
We are most looking forward to creating beautiful pictures to post throughout our home. I want our kids to see our love everywhere and know what a great marriage looks like! We also wrote our own vows and I look forward to having that beautiful time to reflect on the last 10 years with my best friend.
Since having kids, date nights SURE have looked different! Our favorite is to put the kiddos to bed and then do a game night with some drinks. When we go out, we are huge foodies and try to find the best eats. Our favorite is to do day dates with brunch, relaxing in a coffee shop, & doing fun daytime activities together. Mainly, anytime we have together is going to be our best time!
