Intimate Family Wedding – Catherine and Timothy

Intimate Family Wedding in the Smoky Mountains

Catherine and Ethan – September 7, 2026

There is something incredibly special about an intimate family wedding. When the guest list is small and the people standing beside you are the ones who are truly part of your everyday life, even the simplest moments can carry so much meaning.

Catherine and Tim’s wedding at Chapel in the Hollow was the perfect example. They didn’t need hours and hours of festivities or a huge crowd to make their day feel important. Instead, they gathered their family, brought their four children into the heart of their ceremony, and created a sweet, emotional wedding day tucked away in the East Tennessee forest.

A Simple Navy and Cream Forest Wedding

For their ceremony, Catherine and Tim chose cream and navy fabric for the chapel and skipped the florals altogether. The simple color palette looked beautiful against the natural greens and textures of the surrounding woods.

Catherine looked AMAZING in an off-the-shoulder wedding dress with the prettiest vintage-chic feel. Tim coordinated perfectly in a handsome navy suit, while their three daughters and son dressed in colors that complemented the bouquets they brought for the day.

It all came together beautifully without feeling overly styled or formal—exactly right for an intimate family wedding in the woods.

Making Their Children Part of the Ceremony

Before the ceremony, Catherine spent time getting ready with her mom and sister. Then, when it was time to get married, she chose to walk herself down the aisle.

And Tim’s reaction?

GASP. 🥹

An actual, audible gasp.

As soon as he turned around and saw Catherine walking toward him, you could see the emotion hit. He started getting a little choked up, and it was one of those wonderfully genuine wedding-day reactions that you simply can’t manufacture.

Their four children stood beside them during the ceremony, making the moment about more than two people getting married. It was about a family officially beginning this next chapter together.

For couples who want their kids, parents, siblings, or closest friends to be part of the experience, a Smoky Mountain micro wedding can offer the best of both worlds: a real wedding experience with the people who matter most without the stress of planning an enormous traditional celebration.

Personal Vows and Plenty of Happy Tears

Catherine and Tim wrote their own vows, and neither of them managed to make it through completely dry-eyed. As they read their promises to each other, there were tears, smiles, and four VERY happy kids standing nearby watching them make it official. ❤️

Those are the moments we love about an intimate family wedding. With fewer distractions and a smaller group, the focus stays exactly where it belongs—on the couple, their relationship, and the people closest to them.

Their First Professional Photos as a Couple

After the ceremony, we captured a few family portraits around the chapel before stealing Catherine and Tim away for something especially exciting. These were their first-ever professional photos together as a couple!

We started in one of our forest locations where the light was absolutely gorgeous. It gave the newlyweds a chance to slow down, snuggle up, laugh together, and get comfortable being in front of the camera.

Then we headed to the field for a completely different look, trading the cozy woodland backdrop for mountain views.

And apparently their official wedding photographer wasn’t going to be the only person putting them to work that day. 😂 Catherine’s sister was planning to take even more photos of the newlyweds on their way back to their cabin, so we sent them in the direction of the Foothills Parkway for more beautiful Smoky Mountain scenery.

For couples who want to make mountain portraits a bigger part of their wedding experience, our Smoky Mountain Adventure Wedding combines an intimate ceremony at the chapel with a photography adventure to the Foothills Parkway.

From the Bride

We met at work. We went out for drinks and dinner on our first date. He proposed at Anakeesta. We picked East Tennessee for our wedding because it’s where we first started taking trips. On our wedding day we are looking forward to committing to each other in front of family and friends. We are getting married on our anniversary date.  We spend time with each other and enjoy our mortgage! And spend a lot of time with the kids as well.
