Gothic Southern Spring Fairytale – Mindy and Drew

A Gothic Southern Spring Fairytale in the Smoky Mountains
Mindy + Drew’s Darkly Romantic Wedding
May 22, 2026

Some weddings feel like they walked straight out of a storybook — and Mindy and Drew’s day at Chapel in the Hollow was exactly that. Their celebration blended gothic romance, Southern charm, springtime beauty, and playful personality into one unforgettable gothic southern spring fairytale wedding in the Smoky Mountains. 🖤✨

From the dramatic black wedding attire to the moody forest portraits and emotional ceremony moments, their wedding perfectly captured the magic of doing things your own way.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a wedding that feels romantic, alternative, whimsical, and deeply personal, this one is going to steal your heart.

A Moody Forest Wedding with Southern Charm

Nestled in the woods of East Tennessee near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Chapel in the Hollow is known for creating intimate weddings surrounded by nature, and Mindy and Drew fully embraced the atmosphere. 🌿

They styled the chapel in black and blush fabric paired with our blush and bashful florals and lantern package, creating the perfect combination of soft romance and dark elegance. 🕯️🌸

The black draping gave the forest ceremony space a dramatic, enchanted feel, while the blush florals softened everything just enough to create that dreamy “dark fairytale” aesthetic couples are loving right now.

With spring greenery filling the woods and rain clouds lingering overhead, the entire property felt lush, misty, and cinematic — honestly ideal weather for a gothic wedding in the Smokies.

One of the things couples love most about our Smoky Mountain wedding venue is how easily it transforms to fit different aesthetics. Whether couples want whimsical wildflowers, rustic country charm, or dark romantic vibes like this wedding, the forest becomes part of the story.

A Black Wedding Dress Made for a Fairytale

Mindy looked absolutely incredible. 🖤

She wore a tiered black wedding dress that flowed beautifully through the woods and gave total gothic princess energy. The layers added softness and movement while still keeping that bold, dramatic feel that made her look unforgettable.

And because this wedding was all about personality and comfort? She paired the dress with black-and-white Converse sneakers. 👟✨

Honestly, the combination was perfection.

Alternative wedding fashion has become increasingly popular for couples planning intimate weddings and elopements, especially in the Smoky Mountains where couples often lean into relaxed, expressive styles that reflect who they truly are.

Mindy’s look felt elegant without feeling overly traditional — exactly the kind of effortless authenticity that makes a wedding memorable.

Her friends and new daughter helped her get ready, making those quiet moments before the ceremony feel especially emotional and meaningful.

A Groom Fully Embracing the Dark Romance Vibe

Drew matched the atmosphere perfectly in a black-on-black three-piece suit that gave the whole day a timeless gothic elegance. 🖤

The sleek monochromatic styling paired beautifully with the misty spring woods and candlelit décor, making the two of them look like they stepped out of a dark fantasy romance novel.

But as stylish as he looked, the sweetest part was absolutely his reaction when he saw Mindy walking toward him.

Drew’s sister walked Mindy down the aisle to Korn, which immediately set the tone for a ceremony that was personal, emotional, and unapologetically them. 🎶

And the second Drew saw her?

His whole face lit up.

That giant smile said everything.

A Ceremony Full of Personality and Emotion

One of the best parts about intimate weddings is that couples can create ceremonies that truly reflect who they are instead of feeling pressured to follow traditions that don’t fit.

Mindy and Drew leaned fully into that freedom.

During the ceremony, they exchanged beautifully dark wedding rings that perfectly matched their gothic aesthetic. 🖤💍

Every little detail throughout the day reflected their personalities and shared interests — including one of the most fun wedding details ever: a custom cake topper featuring Alien and Predator. 😂

Honestly? Iconic.

Their wedding beautifully balanced emotion and humor in a way that felt incredibly genuine. There were heartfelt moments, emotional reactions, and then little bursts of personality that made everyone laugh.

That balance is often what makes smaller weddings feel so memorable and intimate.

Sweet Southern Moments with a Gothic Twist

After the ceremony, everyone gathered for family photos at the chapel before the celebration continued with dancing, cake, and toasts.

Mindy and Drew shared their first dance together, followed by a sweet dance between Drew and his mom. 💕

And then came one of the most unexpectedly adorable moments of the day.

Their wedding toast. 🥤😂

Instead of champagne, Mindy toasted with Pepsi while Drew chose Coke.

Tiny personal details like that are what make weddings feel authentic instead of performative. The entire day felt centered around celebrating who they are together — not trying to fit into anyone else’s expectations of what a wedding “should” look like.

Moody Forest Wedding Portraits in the Smokies

After guests settled into celebrating, we explored some of the most magical spots around the property for portraits. 📸🌿

One of the reasons couples love having their wedding at Chapel in the Hollow is because the property offers so many unique photo locations all within one private venue space.

For Mindy and Drew’s portraits, we explored:

  • The vines
  • The archway
  • The creek
  • The mossy rock garden
  • The cemetery photo spot

And honestly? The cemetery portraits may have been some of our favorites from the entire day. 🪦🖤

The moody skies and lingering spring rain clouds created soft lighting and rich colors throughout the woods. Everything felt cinematic, dramatic, and enchanted.

The lush East Tennessee greenery contrasted beautifully against their black wedding attire, giving every photo that rich gothic fairytale feeling couples dream about when planning alternative forest weddings.

From the Bride:

Drew and I met in high school and we were friends but coincidentally we were both quiet the funny thing about that is I was more shy than Drew was so Drew was always trying to get me to talk lol after many years passing we reconnected. We started out as friends at first then started dating then we moved in together and we have been together for 9 wonderful years.

For the first date, I picked Drew up from work we went and grabbed Taco Bell and came back to hang out at my house. Drew met my girls Alice and Abbey (my cats) and he watched me feed them each a soft shell taco straight outta the wrapper. I was nervous because my house was filled with horror movie memorabilia and action figures but Drew loved every bit of it and that made me so happy. And when Drew brought over Violet my stepdaughter at the age of 4 for the first time she simply walked in sat down looked around and said like your house which was the ultimate seal of approval after our first date I knew I absolutely loved them both!!

Drew proposed to me on October 31st of 2025 we were having a Halloween night in watching 30 days of night and eating Applebee’s when all of sudden Drew put his phone out and I started getting curious of what he was doing. We danced to Totos Hold the Line which is our song and then he proposed just us simple and sweet everything I could have ever wanted!!

I am most looking forward to seeing Drew’s face when he sees me walking down the aisle.

We have a massive love for horror movies, music, and just trying to squeeze every moment we can in together. Our date night consists of horror movies and good food!! We’re homebodies and we love it!!
