Fall September Wedding
Nicole and John – September 26, 2024
From the Bride
We met in high school, square dancing in gym class! Let’s just say it wasn’t love at first site. However, over the course of the next couple of years we grew to really like each other and we started dating during the summer before my (the bride’s) senior year, and dated for about three years. There came a time when we wanted different things and life took us down separate paths. He worked toward his career and I became a mom. Over the years we would frequently check in with each other, but as time went on that faded. Fast forward fifteen years, I had lost my dad a few years prior and I was thinking of sentimental things; one of them being a rifle my dad had given John. I was curious if he still had it, so I messaged him on Facebook. We chatted briefly and that was it. There was a stretch of silence after that conversation, until one day, I sent him a message, just to check in. John made a comment about my job, saying it looked really cool because I was always at some kind of sporting event (Detroit Tigers, or Lions games). I said, yea, we have a partnership with them, so I’m there a lot, in fact I have tickets for tomorrow’s game. To which he replied, that’s cool, you should take me! I was a bit taken aback because I thought he was in a relationship, but to my surprise he said, no that’s over! To say I was SHOCKED and EXCITED was an understatement. While we continued our conversation, I was messaging my best friend insisting that she go to the game with me the next day so I could offer the other tickets to him. She agreed, and so I did just that. I said hey, I have two extra tickets if you’re interested. He said yea, that would be cool. Fast forward to game day, we meet up so I could give him the tickets. He brought his best friend (who I knew) and thought I would just be giving him the tickets and leaving; he didn’t realize I had two more and was staying. I figured we would do the obligatory catch up and then we would again go our separate ways; only just the opposite happened! We spent the rest of the night hanging out at the tigers game, laughing, reminiscing and not having a clue what was to come. We talked the next day, made plans to go out again and we have been together ever since! Our lives today, are full of love and adventure. When we reconnected, my daughter was 7, and John not having any kids of his own (yet) jumped right in and cared for her just as if she were his! Six months after getting back together, I found out I was pregnant…with TWINS, a boy and a girl. We have built a beautiful life together, with our three amazing kids! I pray God continues to bless us with many more years!
John proposed, on our 9 year dating anniversary. It was very simple, but perfect! When we were kids just dating, my dad asked what his intentions were? John said, “to marry your daughter”. Here we are, all these years later finally getting married, on our 10 year (dating) anniversary. We have traveled several times to Tennessee, and we both love it. And part of my dad rests here in TN so when John proposed and I found this little chapel in the hollow, I knew this is exactly where we needed to be married!
On our wedding day I am looking forward to finally marrying the person I was always meant to be with! We decided on this date because it is the date we went to the Tigers game; which ended up being declared as our anniversary date.We enjoy camping together, being outdoors, traveling (with or without our kids…mostly with). A typical date night is usually simple, dinner and drinks.
