Country Mini Wedding
December 2, 2023 – Sarah and Tyler
From the Bride:
We met and were friends for many years. I had bought a house and he was working on it for me. So for our first date, we had spent the entire day shopping for things for the house and decided to have dinner afterwards. After dinner it had started to rain and he pulled off in a field and we danced in the glow of the truck headlights in the rain.
I had planned a big birthday surprise for him. He had always said he wanted to go to Biltmore, so I had kept it a complete surprise, other than telling him we were going somewhere he had always wanted to go. A week prior to going, he called around to all the places he had remembered telling me he always wanted to go (5 or 6 diff places). He finally got them to tell him that there was a ticket booked, but would tell him nothing else. So we get in the car the morning of the trip and when I tell him where we are going, he acts completely surprised. Never did he let me even think that he already knew about the trip. We went through our day at the Biltmore House and when we were done we went to the hill directly in front of the house. As we were walking up, there was one person positioned at the top, right in the center photographing the house. I tried to politely move out of their view and sat down to enjoy the view. He sat down for a quick moment and then got up saying that his “knee was hurting”. So I stood with him. I turned around and noticed that the man taking photos had moved and although I had deliberately tried to stay out of his way, had ended up right behind us. As I stood up, he got down on one knee and I immediately sat back down. I asked him if he was ok, since his “knee was hurting”. He asked me to stand up. I told him no I didn’t want to draw attention to us, he still insisted I stand up. I again told him no, and to sit down because people were staring at us. He again said, stand up Sarah, just stand up! And as I did, he asked me to marry him! And of course, I said yes! I grabbed my phone to take a selfie of us in front of the Biltmore House, when he informed me that the man that was behind us was a photographer that he had hired to take our engagement pictures. It took a minute for it to all sink in, he knew exactly where we were going all along!
We decided on an East Tennessee wedding because it’s close to home and I absolutely fell in love with the venue. I am looking forward to joining our families together as one!
On our free time, we enjoy adventuring and hiking!
