Autumn Jane Austen Wedding
Collin and Misty – October 24, 2023
From the Bride on her autumn Jane Austen wedding:
We actually met way back in preschool, but I don’t think we liked each other much then. It wasn’t until later, during Spanish class in middle school, that we became friends. After we started talking, we became inseparable and eventually started dating. We have been best friends ever since. We went to different colleges after high school, and we have each grown up in our own way, but our relationship has always been that one steady presence.
For our first date, Oh gosh, we were both so young and it was something unexciting. Like walking through a park together. I remember Collin being super nervous, and I was probably self conscious, but we ended up chatting for hours!
Collin proposed. We (along with our dog, Frost) went on a vacation to Ithaca, NY to celebrate our graduations from our respective colleges. We stayed at a cottage on a farm and explored Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology and Botanical Gardens, Seneca Lake, some of the many waterfalls in the area. About midway through our vacation, we hiked through Watkins Glen State Park and Collin proposed to me on a stone balcony overlooking one of the waterfalls. His voice trembled when he asked me and I immediately said yes and flung my arms around him. Collin then full on cried and I was just bursting with excitement. I think by the end of the day, my face hurt from smiling so much.
We decided on an East Tennessee wedding on a whim! We love exploring new places and National Parks and were initially looking for places to stay so that we could visit Great Smoky Mountains. After going down a rabbit hole of things to do in Tennessee, we somehow ended up on a blog about a wedding at the Chapel in the Hollow. We thought it was adorable! We ultimately didn’t go to Tennessee at the time, but when we later started looking at venues for our elopement, we kept coming back to the idea of that little chapel we had seen. I knew I wanted a wedding close to Halloween, too, and the stars aligned when we reached out about a late October ceremony at the Chapel in the Hollow.
I am looking forward to; is “everything” an acceptable answer? I’ve been ready to marry Collin for what seems like a long time and I am really looking forward to enjoying the day, from the outfits to the photos, and to starting this new chapter of our lives together. Collin says “I look forward to finally being able to introduce Misty as my wife, rather than girlfriend or fiancée. I am excited to put her ring on her finger and share our vows.”
I wanted a fall wedding because fall is one of my absolute favorite times of the year and it has been my dream to get married close to Halloween. Thankfully, Collin was game for it, too!
For fun, we love to hike and explore nature. We enjoy baking, movie nights, and seeing or doing new things. I am also an avid “dog lady” and train my dogs for a variety of sports and Collin likes coming along to events to cheer us on and help out. We enjoy sharing our lives in whatever small or large ways that work for us, from grocery shopping together to taking a steam train rides.
