What Makes a Cades Cove Wedding So Special?
There’s a reason couples from all over the country fall in love with Cades Cove. Tucked into Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend, Tennessee, Cades Cove is a wide mountain valley surrounded by the Smokies.
Unlike some mountain photography locations where the view is mostly distant ridgelines, Cades Cove gives you a completely different landscape.
Think wide-open fields, mountains rising all around you, rustic fences, historic buildings, and beautiful seasonal scenery.
In spring and summer, everything turns lush and green.
In fall, the mountains explode with color.
And during the colder months, the open landscape and bare trees can create some beautifully dramatic views.
It’s the kind of place that makes a wedding dress look even more incredible. And if you’re a couple who loves the mountains, history, nature, or a little bit of adventure, it’s pretty hard to beat.
First, Get Married at Chapel in the Hollow
Your wedding day begins at our little outdoor chapel in the woods.
Chapel in the Hollow is a private micro wedding venue in Seymour, Tennessee, near Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Townsend.
You’ll have access to our bridal suite during your included grace period, and your chapel will be decorated with your selected available fabrics and florals.
Your wedding experience includes professional officiating, photography, and event management, so you won’t have to coordinate all those pieces separately.
Whether you’re eloping with just the two of you or bringing a small group of family and friends, you can enjoy a meaningful ceremony surrounded by the East Tennessee forest.
Exchange your vows.
Share your first kiss.
Celebrate with the people you love.
And officially become newlyweds!
Celebrate With Your Favorite People
After your ceremony, we’ll have time for family photographs and other wedding-day moments at Chapel in the Hollow, depending on your selected timeline.
Your Cades Cove experience also includes some lovely little extras:
- A small wedding cake
- Use of our cake accessories
- A bottle of champagne
- Use of two champagne flutes
- An 11×14 canvas print (you’ll choose this when you receive your photos)
- Professional photography to capture the experience
You can enjoy a little celebration with your guests before heading out for the next part of your day.
And then comes the adventure!
Next Stop: Cades Cove!
After your chapel celebration, we’ll head toward Townsend and into Great Smoky Mountains National Park for your couple-only Cades Cove photography experience.
We’ll take care of transportation for the two of you, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery while we make our way into the mountains.
Cades Cove is famous for its scenic 11-mile loop road, which winds through the valley past historic homes, churches, open fields, and beautiful mountain views.
We’ll plan photography stops around your preferences, available daylight, traffic, parking, weather, and current park access.
Want dramatic mountain backdrops?
Absolutely.
Love old cabins and rustic architecture?
We’ve got options.
Dreaming of romantic portraits near a historic country church?
Let’s see what we can work into the route.
The beauty of this experience is getting a variety of backgrounds that feel distinctly Smoky Mountain without having to organize a separate photography session after your wedding.

Cades Cove Wedding Photography Locations
One of our favorite things about Cades Cove is the variety.
You can go from a wide-open mountain meadow to a historic log cabin or white country church in a relatively short distance—assuming the local wildlife isn’t holding up traffic. 😂
Here are some of the places we may incorporate into your Cades Cove wedding photography adventure.
Mountain Views & Open Meadows
This is probably what most couples picture when they dream of Cades Cove wedding photos.
Wide grassy fields stretch toward the mountains, creating beautiful scenery for romantic couple portraits.
Depending on the season, you might find lush greenery, golden grasses, autumn color, or soft winter light.
These locations are especially beautiful for wide scenic photographs that really show off the landscape.
Historic Churches
Cades Cove is home to several historic churches, including the Primitive Baptist Church, Methodist Church, and Missionary Baptist Church.
Their old-fashioned architecture, wooden details, and peaceful surroundings can create gorgeous backgrounds for wedding portraits.
If you’re drawn to rustic romance, vintage charm, or a timeless country wedding aesthetic, these are wonderful possibilities.
And… if you like the creepy side of things, there are historic graveyards to peruse.
Historic Log Cabins & Homesteads
Want something a little more rustic?
Cades Cove has beautifully preserved historic cabins and homesteads that offer a completely different look from the open mountain fields.
Think weathered wood, split-rail fences, old porches, and little pieces of Appalachian history.
Some couples love the contrast of elegant wedding attire against these rugged, historic structures.
Rustic Barns, Fences & Country Scenery
Sometimes it’s the little details that make a location special.
Wooden fences, old barns, winding paths, and natural textures can add variety to your wedding gallery.
We can mix these with the bigger mountain views to create a collection of photographs that tells the story of your day.
Specific stops and access to historic buildings cannot be guaranteed. Locations depend on park regulations, closures, parking, crowds, weather, and available time. All photography will respect historic structures, wildlife, and other park visitors.

How Long Does a Cades Cove Wedding Take?
Plan for approximately five hours for the wedding and photography experience, although the total time may vary depending on traffic, park conditions, and the needs of your wedding.
Cades Cove is beautiful, but it is also one of the most popular places in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The loop road is one-way, and traffic can move slowly, particularly during fall foliage season, weekends, holidays, and wildlife sightings.
We build this experience around the understanding that the mountains don’t always operate on a perfect schedule.
We’ll help plan a realistic timeline for your chapel ceremony, family photographs, celebration, travel, and Cades Cove portraits.
Our goal is to give you a beautiful experience without making you feel like you’re racing a stopwatch between photo locations.
Because if you’re going to spend your wedding day somewhere this gorgeous, you should actually get to enjoy it.
Can Our Family Come to Cades Cove?
Your family and friends are welcome to celebrate your ceremony at Chapel in the Hollow, up to the guest limit of your selected wedding option.
The Cades Cove photography portion, however, is just for the two of you.
That allows us to focus on romantic newlywed portraits, travel together, and make the most of our time in the park without coordinating a caravan of guests.
It’s also a sweet opportunity to enjoy a little time together after all the excitement of your ceremony.
You can always reunite with everyone afterward for dinner, a cabin celebration, or whatever you’ve planned for the rest of your wedding day.

Cades Cove Wedding vs. Our Regular Adventure Wedding
Both packages give you a beautiful ceremony at Chapel in the Hollow and an unforgettable Smoky Mountain wedding experience.
The biggest difference is where your adventure takes you afterward.
Adventure Wedding
Our regular Adventure Wedding includes a couple-only photography adventure along the Foothills Parkway.
It’s a wonderful option for couples who want dramatic mountain overlooks and beautiful panoramic views without spending as much time traveling and exploring.
Cades Cove Wedding & Elopement Experience
Our Cades Cove package takes the adventure farther.
Instead of focusing on the Foothills Parkway, we’ll head into Cades Cove for mountain meadows, historic churches, rustic cabins, and classic Smoky Mountain scenery.
The experience is longer and gives us the opportunity to create a gallery with a different variety of backgrounds.
Choose the Foothills Parkway for dramatic overlooks.
Choose Cades Cove for mountain valleys, rustic history, and a scenic adventure through the Smokies.
Either way, you’re getting married in a pretty incredible place.

We’ll help determine which dates work for this experience based on current park schedules.
What happens if there’s bad weather?
We’re an outdoor wedding venue, and Cades Cove is an outdoor photography location.
We’ll discuss practical options based on weather, road conditions, and park access. Safety always comes first, and specific outdoor photo locations cannot be guaranteed.
What if traffic is really bad?
Traffic is part of visiting Cades Cove, especially during peak seasons.
We’ll prioritize the available time and photography stops as conditions allow. The number of locations we can visit may change if traffic is heavier than expected.
What time of year is best for a Cades Cove wedding?
Every season offers something different.
Spring brings fresh greenery, summer offers lush landscapes, fall is known for colorful mountain scenery, and winter can provide dramatic views and a quieter atmosphere.
The best season depends on the look you’re hoping for, your tolerance for crowds, and the amount of daylight available.
