Smoky Mountain Destination Elopement – Amber and Marcel

 Smoky Mountain Destination Elopement

Amber and Marcel – September 5, 2025

A Love Story That Crossed Continents

When love spans continents, you know the wedding day is going to be unforgettable.  Amber and Marcel’s Smoky Mountain destination elopement at Chapel in the Hollow was the perfect combination of romance, joy, and relaxed summer vibes. Nestled in the heart of East Tennessee, this dreamy micro wedding brought together their international love story and the serene beauty of the forest.

A Forest Ceremony with Earthy Details

Amber and Marcel chose a fresh and elegant color palette of hunter green and white, accented with succulent-inspired florals provided by the chapel. The styling blended seamlessly with the wooded backdrop, creating an intimate and earthy atmosphere. For couples planning a destination elopement, this is proof that you don’t need elaborate décor to create something magical—the forest itself provides the perfect canvas.
The chapel draping options allowed Amber and Marcel to personalize their space while keeping the design simple and stress-free. This is one of the reasons couples from around the world choose Chapel in the Hollow: it offers the feeling of a secluded national park wedding without the hassle of permits or large crowds.

The Bride + Groom

Amber looked radiant in a bohemian-inspired gown—a cream lace dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves, bell details, and double skirt slits that added a touch of drama. The lightweight fabric and romantic style were perfect for a summer wedding in Tennessee. For brides considering elopements, this look proves that an Amazon wedding dress can be both budget-friendly and absolutely stunning.
Marcel complemented her style perfectly in a navy pinstriped suit, paired with a subtle succulent boutonnière that tied the look together. His excitement was undeniable the moment he saw Amber—his joy-filled reaction is exactly why we love first looks and intimate ceremonies.

A Love Story that Began in Gatlinburg

Amber and Marcel’s story could be a movie.  They met online when Marcel was living in Ireland and Amber was in Tennessee. Their first in-person meeting? Right here in Gatlinburg, just a short drive from Chapel in the Hollow. Years later, they returned to the Smoky Mountains to say their vows, bringing their love story full circle.

Relaxed Micro Wedding Vibes

The ceremony itself was heartfelt and emotional—complete with misty eyes during vows. Afterward, they explored the property for couple portraits with Star Noir Studio, laughing and sharing inside jokes along the way. This relaxed approach is one of the things that makes micro weddings so special: couples can focus on joy and connection rather than rigid timelines.
Following their ceremony, Amber and Marcel celebrated with a romantic dinner in Knoxville, making their elopement day the perfect balance of intimacy, adventure, and celebration.
From the Bride
We first connected online in 2019 during some of the hardest times in our lives. Marcel was facing the recent loss of his brother, and his father was battling terminal cancer. At the same time, I was pregnant and finally gained the courage to rebuild my life after surviving 7 years of domestic violence and a very difficult childhood. We both initially enjoyed the distraction of each other’s company and then started to bond together by being a source of comfort to one another when it felt like no one else in our lives understood our pain. After a few years and a lot of healing together…we started to realize we were keeping our romantic lives on hold and making time for each other a priority in our lives. That’s when we knew there was something not just special between the 2 of us, but an innocent love that neither of us felt for anyone ever. It was then we decided we needed to meet each other in person. Our first date was in November of 2022. It was not a typical date. Marcel made the flight from Ireland to TN and booked us a beautiful cabin. I was so nervous driving up, but the moment he walked out the door, all of that disappeared. I ran straight into his arms and we both had our first kiss together. We hugged, laughed and couldn’t stop smiling after being so close for so long. It was magical.
I actually proposed to him. After spending a couple months in the states and about 10 or so visits with me. I decorated the house, bought him a wedding band, and asked him to marry me and end long distance for good. I am from Tennessee and we first met in the mountains so makes sense for us to be married there too. I am looking forward to committing myself to someone who has given me a life and a love that I truly never believed to be possible. Very few people get to marry someone they are genuinely best friends with.
Anything we get to do together is always fun. Our date nights are always spur the moment and can consist of everything from a basic dinner, to a night out on the town, candle lit home cooked meals, a long drive to see something new, art classes, etc. Most of our date nights are surprise dates planned by the other to do something we know the other has wanted to do. Like an escape room, or a wine and paint class.
