Fall Petite Wedding

Bill + Angela – September 24, 2026

Bill and Angela’s fall Petite Wedding started with something we had been waiting weeks to say.

Wait…

Does it actually feel like FALL outside?!

After what seemed like approximately 47 consecutive years of East Tennessee summer, we finally stepped outside to cooler air. The forest was still wonderfully green, but for the first time this season, there was that little shift in the weather that made autumn feel like it was genuinely on its way.

The timing couldn’t have been better for Angela. She loves being outdoors and wanted to get married somewhere surrounded by nature, so a cool, quiet day in the woods was pretty much exactly what she’d hoped for.

Unfortunately, getting there turned out to be considerably more complicated than anyone expected.

A Simple Fall Petite Wedding in the Woods

Bill and Angela chose a Petite Wedding, keeping their actual wedding plans wonderfully simple.

The chapel was dressed in cream fabric and white florals, and Angela carried one of our white bouquets for the ceremony. Against the green forest, everything felt clean, natural, and romantic without needing a lot of extra decoration.

That’s one of the things I love about a tiny wedding in the woods. Nature is already doing quite a bit of the decorating for you.

Angela especially wanted that outdoor feeling for her wedding day. She didn’t need an enormous production or an elaborate setup. She wanted trees, greenery, fresh air, and the man she was there to marry.

And on this particular day, that simplicity turned out to be even more meaningful.

Because before Bill and Angela could get married, they had to actually make it to the wedding.

A Wedding-Day Detour Nobody Planned

On their way to the chapel, Bill and Angela were involved in a car accident.

Thankfully—and this is by FAR the most important part—neither of them was injured. ❤️

Still, being in a car accident is scary and stressful on an ordinary day.

Being in one while you’re literally on your way to get married?

That’s a lot.

Their vehicle wasn’t going to be finishing the trip with them, but one of the fire officers at the scene stepped in and did something incredibly kind: he gave Bill and Angela a ride the rest of the way to us. So they arrived for their wedding in a fire vehicle. Not exactly the wedding transportation they had pictured when they woke up that morning. But they made it. And they were okay.

Those were the important parts.

Taking a Minute Before “I Do”

When Bill and Angela arrived, there was no reason to immediately rush them into a ceremony.

They had just been through something frightening. So we gave them a few minutes.

They sat down, collected themselves, and had a chance to let some of that adrenaline settle before doing the thing they’d actually come there to do.

Get married.

And even after everything that had happened? They were still SO excited about it.

I think that’s the part of their wedding day I’ll remember most.

Their plans had been disrupted in a pretty dramatic way. Their vehicle was gone. They suddenly had a whole new set of problems to deal with once the wedding was finished.

But none of that changed why they were there. Bill wanted to marry Angela. Angela wanted to marry Bill. So that’s exactly what they did.

Walking Down the Aisle Together

Bill and Angela walked down the aisle together. I loved that. There was something especially fitting about watching the two of them enter their ceremony side by side after the morning they’d just experienced.

They stood together at the bottom of the chapel steps, surrounded by the forest Angela had wanted for their wedding. Then everything got very simple again. They exchanged their rings. They made their promises. They shared their kisses. And they became husband and wife. No giant production was necessary. No complicated timeline. No long list of traditions they had to work through. Just the two of them standing together in the woods and getting married.

After the chaos of getting there, their fall Petite Wedding itself felt wonderfully calm.

Finally Getting to Slow Down

Once Bill and Angela were officially married, there was nothing else they needed to accomplish. And that meant we could finally slow everything down.

They’d spent the earlier part of the day dealing with something stressful and completely unexpected. Now they got a little bit of time to simply be newlyweds.

For a Petite Wedding, couple photos take place in the area immediately surrounding the chapel. That works especially well for couples who want a short wedding because we’re not using precious time loading into vehicles and traveling between photo locations. And you’d be surprised how much variety we can find in a relatively small area.

We started with Bill and Angela around the chapel, giving them that classic little wedding-in-the-woods feeling. Then we moved underneath the archway for another look before heading toward the log, where we snuggled them together amongst all of the greenery. We even found a pretty little spot near the parking area that gave us a different perspective with the chapel tucked into the background.

Same general area. Completely different looks.

And no additional transportation required—which, on this particular day, was probably especially appreciated. 😂❤️

The Quiet Part of Their Wedding Day

For Angela, those newlywed photos also gave her some of what she’d originally hoped to experience on her wedding day.

Nature. Trees. Greenery. Quiet.

After everything that had happened before they arrived, it felt especially nice to spend some time somewhere peaceful. They could finally stop thinking about the accident for a few minutes. There was nothing to figure out right then. No calls to make. No transportation problem to solve. They were married, they were together, and we got to wander around outside taking pretty pictures of them.

Sometimes that’s enough.

A Fall Wedding That Actually Felt Like Fall

And can we circle back to the weather for a second?

Because HALLELUJAH.

East Tennessee had finally turned the temperature down.

It was still early enough in the season that the forest hadn’t transformed into peak autumn color, but that’s one of the things I like about early fall weddings. There’s a transition period where everything is still lush and green, but the air begins to change.

You get that outdoor fall feeling before the trees necessarily look like the cover of an October calendar. For Bill and Angela, it was perfect. Their wedding didn’t need pumpkins or piles of orange leaves to feel like autumn.

Cooler air, a quiet forest, cream and white wedding details, and time outside together were plenty.

And Then Nelson Arrived

Of course, apparently no wedding around here is truly complete anymore until Nelson has decided whether it meets his approval. 🐈‍⬛😂 Our friendly little black stray kitty wandered over after the ceremony to greet the newlyweds and offer what I can only assume was his official feline benediction.

Fortunately, Bill and Angela have kitties of their own. So instead of wondering why a random black cat had suddenly inserted himself into their wedding day, they were VERY happy to see him.

Honestly, after the morning they’d had, I think a surprise kitty was exactly the kind of unexpected event they deserved. No emergency vehicles. No insurance paperwork. Just cat. gggggMuch better.

At this point, Nelson has apparently appointed himself resident wedding cat. He doesn’t attend every ceremony, because obviously his schedule is very demanding, but when he does show up, I think we have to assume your marriage has received an extra blessing.

Those are the rules.

I don’t make them. 😂🐈‍⬛

One More Problem to Solve

Eventually, their wedding and photo time came to an end. Unfortunately, there was still one fairly obvious issue. Bill and Angela no longer had a vehicle. Their unexpected wedding-day adventure was not quite finished.

We gave them a ride to the nearest gas station, where they could touch base with their family, request an Uber, and start figuring out what needed to happen next. Was any of this how they expected their wedding day to go? Probably not. But that’s the thing about weddings—and life in general.

You can make the plans. You can create the timeline. You can decide exactly how you think the day is going to unfold. And sometimes life says, Actually, I have notes. What matters is what you do next.

Bill and Angela handled an incredibly stressful situation with so much grace. They took care of themselves, made sure they were okay, regrouped, and kept moving forward.

And when they finally arrived at their wedding, the most important part of the plan was still completely intact.

They wanted to get married.

So they did. ❤️

A Petite Wedding With a Very Big Story

Bill and Angela’s wedding is such a good reminder that a meaningful wedding doesn’t depend on how elaborate the plans are—or whether every single one of those plans actually works out.

Their fall Petite Wedding was tiny. The decorations were simple. Their ceremony was short and sweet. Their photos stayed close to the chapel. But the story they’ll have from the day? That’s a pretty big one.

They’ll remember the accident, of course. They’ll remember the kind fire officer who helped them get where they needed to go. They’ll probably remember trying to figure out an Uber after getting married.

But I hope those aren’t the only things they remember. I hope they remember how excited they still were when they arrived. I hope they remember walking down the aisle together. I hope they remember exchanging rings and kissing after everything was finally official. I hope they remember how peaceful the woods felt once they had a chance to slow down. And obviously, I hope they remember the random black cat who appeared to congratulate them.

Because Nelson would be offended otherwise.

Their little fall Petite Wedding ended up being a beautiful reminder that you don’t need everything around you to be perfect to have a meaningful wedding day.

Sometimes you just need to get there, take a minute, grab your person’s hand, and remember why you came.
