Barry and Melissa’s Smoky Mountain Wedding at Chapel in the Hollow

So she became his wife, and he loved her. (Genesis 24-67)

As you may notice in the photos, this quote is on Melissa and Barry’s wedding program. I hope that every couple we see married here fits this, but I can’t imagine anyone being more of a literal representation of this than these two. When we were chatting before the ceremony, I asked Barry if he was nervous. His response… “I’ve been nervous before, but it was because I knew I was making a mistake. Nothing has ever been more right than this. I should have done this twenty years ago.” Every time he looked at her, his face lit up. It was almost as beautiful as her smile.

Not only was this a very special day for the two of them, but they chose this particular day because it is her parents’ anniversary. This year, they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary! How spectacular.  You may notice that there are two cakes in the cake photo. The second one isn’t as you might assume the groom’s cake. Melissa had a second cake created for her parents and topped it with their cake topper from their wedding. That’s not the only thing that made it from that wedding 50 years ago, either!! Melissa’s father was actually wearing the same shoes he got married in.

Could there be a wedding more inclined to steal a few tears from even the most hardened of hearts?? Congratulations Melissa and Barry on your first weekend as husband and wife!!! We hope you make it to that magical 50th anniversary, too!
