25 Year Vow Renewal – Leninden and Paula

25-Year Vow Renewal

Leninden and Paula – August 18, 2026

Twenty-five years of marriage.

Two kids.

And a love story that started when they were just 15 years old.

Leninden and Paula’s 25-year vow renewal was one of those days that felt especially meaningful because their story didn’t begin with this ceremony—it had already been unfolding for decades.

They chose Chapel in the Hollow for their anniversary celebration, and after a night of summer storms and heavy rain, they arrived to a forest that looked completely refreshed. Everything was green and glowing, the water was running, and the soft morning light filtering through the trees gave the whole place that dreamy, just-after-the-rain feeling.

It was a pretty perfect backdrop for two people who were choosing each other all over again.

A Love Story That Started at 15

Leninden and Paula have known each other since they were teenagers.

Their first date was on December 22 at a Christmas festival, and all these years later, they still remember how magical that night felt. Honestly, there’s something kind of adorable about imagining these two as 15-year-olds wandering around a Christmas festival together with absolutely no idea where life was going to take them. They eventually married at 21.

Then came life.

They built a home together, raised two children, made memories, navigated hard seasons, celebrated good ones, and somehow blinked and found themselves standing 25 years into marriage. And this time, when Paula walked down the aisle toward Leninden, the two children they had raised together were there to be part of it.

That alone makes a 25-year vow renewal feel pretty extraordinary.

Dusty Blue Details in the Summer Forest

For their ceremony, Leninden and Paula dressed the chapel in dusty blue and white fabric with our blue and yellow florals. They added fern wreaths along the pews, which blended beautifully into the lush summer forest around the chapel. The overall look was soft, romantic, and a little whimsical without feeling overly formal.

And then there was Paula’s dress.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

Instead of choosing a traditional white gown, Paula wore the most enchanting silvery-blue dress, and it could not have been more perfect for her. The color looked incredible surrounded by all of the greenery, and there was something slightly ethereal about the entire look. She paired it with a delicate hair vine and sparkly shoes, adding just enough shimmer to make everything feel special without taking away from the softness of the dress.

It felt romantic. A little magical. And completely appropriate for a celebration of a love story spanning more than two decades.

Their daughter helped Paula get ready before the ceremony, while Leninden and their son both looked extra handsome in full suits. There’s something I really love about seeing children participate in a vow renewal. They aren’t just guests at their parents’ celebration—they are part of the story those vows created.

Walking Down the Aisle Again

For the ceremony, Leninden and Paula gave their children some pretty important jobs. Their daughter served as ring bearer. Their son had the honor of walking Paula down the aisle.

And as some of Leninden and Paula’s favorite music played, Paula made her way toward the man she had first chosen all those years ago. Except this time, everything was different. And everything was the same.

Twenty-five years earlier, she had walked toward him with an entire marriage still ahead of them. This time, she walked toward him carrying all of those years with her. The home they had built. The two children standing with them. The ordinary days and the unforgettable ones. The challenges they had made it through. The inside jokes no one else understands. The memories that probably feel like yesterday and forever ago all at once.

That is what makes a 25-year vow renewal ceremony so different from a wedding. The first time you say your vows, so much of the promise is about the future. When you say them again after 25 years, you already know what those promises can require.

Writing New Vows After 25 Years Together

Leninden and Paula chose to write their own vows for their renewal, and I think there’s something especially beautiful about personal vows when you have a quarter century of marriage behind you.

At a wedding, you can promise to stand beside someone through whatever life brings. At a 25-year anniversary, you can look at that person and say, we actually did. You’ve already experienced years when things were easy and years when they weren’t. You’ve celebrated birthdays and holidays. You’ve made big decisions together. You’ve raised children. You’ve changed as individuals while somehow continuing to build a life as a team.

So the promises you make at a 25-year vow renewal aren’t based only on everything you hope marriage will become. They are backed by everything you already know it can survive. That gives those words a different kind of weight. Leninden and Paula weren’t simply promising a future to each other. They were honoring the life they had already created while choosing to keep building it together.

Celebrating the Family They Built

After the ceremony, we stayed around the chapel for family photos with their son and daughter. And really, those photos tell such an important piece of the story. Twenty-five years of marriage had created something bigger than the two people who originally said “I do.” Now there were four of them.

After we documented the whole family together, we gave Leninden and Paula some time to focus on each other. Because even when your children are part of your greatest accomplishments together, a vow renewal is also about remembering where everything started: the two of you. We headed to the road for portraits before making our way over to the old truck.

The soft post-storm light gave everything this wonderfully romantic feel, and Paula’s silvery-blue gown looked gorgeous against the rustic scenery. Then we headed toward one final stop.

Smoky Mountain Vow Renewal Photos

We finished Leninden and Paula’s anniversary portraits in the field with the mountain view. After the overnight rain, the Smoky Mountains were wrapped in that gorgeous haze they’re famous for. Instead of bold, sharply defined peaks, the mountains seemed to fade softly into layer after layer of blue-gray in the distance.

It was quiet. It was romantic. And somehow it felt exactly right for the ending of their morning.

A Smoky Mountain vow renewal doesn’t need to recreate your original wedding day. Honestly, that’s part of the fun. Twenty-five years later, you aren’t the same people who stood at the altar the first time.

You’ve grown. Your relationship has grown. Your family may have grown. Your priorities have probably changed. So instead of trying to rewind the clock, a vow renewal can celebrate the people you have become together.

Wear the blue dress. Bring your children. Choose the music that actually means something to you now. Write new promises. Take new photos. Make the day reflect your marriage as it exists today.

Twenty-Five Years Down, Plenty More to Go

There’s something really joyful about getting to photograph couples at this stage of their story. Weddings celebrate possibility. Vow renewals celebrate proof.

Proof that two teenagers who went to a Christmas festival together could grow up, get married, raise a family, and still choose to stand across from each other 25 years later and say, essentially: Yep. Still you.

From two 15-year-olds on their first magical Christmas festival date to 25 years of marriage and a family of four, I’d say that first date worked out pretty well.

Happy 25th anniversary, Leninden and Paula!!

Here’s to everything you’ve already built together—and all the adventures still ahead. ❤️

From the Groom:

We were teenagers living in the same town. We started as friends then boyfriends and girlfriends. We got married in 2001 and we have been together since then. The first date was just amazing. I proposed when I was 17 at a romantic dinner with a champagne glass with a ring inside. We chose East Tennessee for our 25 year vow renewal because it’s beautiful. We are most looking forward to something spectacular. We chose the date because it’s our anniversary.
