Early Fall Micro Wedding
Briana and Nathan – September 19, 2026
Early fall in East Tennessee is a funny little season. The calendar says autumn. Everyone has mentally moved on to pumpkins, sweaters, and colorful leaves. Meanwhile, the forest is still mostly green and the midday sun is like, “Absolutely not. We are continuing summer.” 😂
Briana and Nathan didn’t let that stop them from bringing all the warm autumn vibes to their early fall micro wedding. With champagne and cinnamon colors, rich fall flowers, candlelight, a gorgeous emerald ring, and their family gathered around them, their wedding felt wonderfully cozy even if the Tennessee temperatures hadn’t quite gotten the memo yet.
More importantly, their day was full of the things that actually mattered to them: their kids standing beside them, personal vows that included their kitty Gary, happy tears, family, and plenty of time together after the ceremony.
And then Nelson showed up.
Because apparently you cannot mention a cat during a wedding ceremony around here without summoning one. 😂🐈
Bringing Fall Colors Into the Forest
Briana and Nathan dressed the chapel in champagne and cinnamon fabric paired with our white florals and candle package. Against the still-lush green forest, those warm colors immediately brought a little autumn into the scenery.
Briana also brought a welcome sign that hung at the entrance to the aisle, greeting their family and friends as they arrived. It was a simple detail, but those are often the things that make a micro wedding feel personal. You don’t necessarily need a hundred decorations when you’ve chosen a setting already surrounded by trees. A few intentional touches can completely change the feeling without competing with everything around them.
The champagne and cinnamon tones worked especially well for this in-between part of September. The leaves may not have transformed into their full fall colors yet, but Briana and Nathan’s wedding certainly had.
Briana’s Gorgeous Fall Bridal Look
And then there was Briana.
Can we talk about that dress?!
She wore a gorgeous off-the-shoulder wedding gown with a beautiful long train, paired with a short veil. The combination gave her such a romantic bridal look, and that TRAIN was definitely going to get its moment once we started taking newlywed photos. Her bouquet added another layer of fall color with rich, warm tones that looked beautiful against her dress and coordinated perfectly with the cinnamon and champagne at the chapel.
Before the ceremony, Briana’s sister helped her get dressed. Those quiet getting-ready moments with someone you love can be some of the sweetest parts of a smaller wedding day. There isn’t necessarily a room packed with fifteen people, matching robes, and seventeen curling irons all fighting for the same outlet. 😂 Instead, there can be a little room to slow down and actually take in what’s about to happen.
Once Briana was ready, her dad came to walk her down the aisle.
And Briana was already crying.
Happy Tears on the Way Down the Aisle
There was no waiting until the vows for the emotions to arrive.
Briana started down the aisle toward Nathan with her dad beside her, and the happy tears were already happening. ❤️
I love moments like that because wedding ceremonies can feel so abstract during the planning process. For months, you’re choosing colors, answering emails, buying clothes, figuring out flowers, making lists, and checking things off. “Walk down the aisle” is just another item somewhere on the timeline.
Then suddenly you’re actually standing there. Your family is watching. Your person is waiting for you. And you’re about to get married.
Sometimes the emotions don’t politely wait until you’re in position.
Briana’s definitely didn’t.
A Micro Wedding Centered Around Family
Nathan’s son and daughter stood beside Briana and Nathan during the ceremony, making their early fall micro wedding feel like more than simply the beginning of their marriage.
It was a family moment, too.
That’s one of the things I especially love about intimate weddings. With fewer people and less production happening around you, there can be more space to recognize the relationships that are part of your actual everyday life. For Briana and Nathan, having the kids beside them made perfect sense. They weren’t somewhere in the audience watching from a distance. They were right there as these two made their promises to each other and officially began this next chapter.
And those promises were very much their own.
Personal Wedding Vows…Featuring Gary the Cat
Briana and Nathan wrote their own vows, sharing personal promises and little pieces of the life they’ve built together.
Including their kitty, Gary. Which was adorable.
Apparently, however, someone else was listening. Almost immediately after Gary was mentioned, our resident stray kitty Nelson appeared and began making his way down the aisle toward them.
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CEREMONY.
😂🐈
Listen. You can’t make this stuff up.
The timing was so ridiculously perfect that it genuinely felt like Nelson had been waiting somewhere nearby thinking, “Cat? Did someone say cat? That’s my cue.” Because obviously, if the vows were going to include a feline family member, the ceremony required an official cat representative.
Nelson has apparently decided that his duties now include venue inspections, guest greetings, couple blessings, and wedding ceremony supervision. His résumé is getting surprisingly impressive. Fortunately, Briana and Nathan seemed to take their unexpected wedding crasher in stride.
And really, how many people get to say they mentioned their cat during their vows and another cat immediately came strolling down the aisle? That’s a story you keep.
New Rings for the Newlyweds
Briana and Nathan exchanged their wedding rings and officially became husband and wife, and Briana’s ring deserves its own little moment here. She had a stunning light emerald stone set in gold and surrounded by diamonds. It was SO pretty. The soft green of the emerald looked beautiful against all of the warmer colors they had chosen for the wedding. Between the gold setting, cinnamon fabric, champagne tones, autumn bouquet, and greenery surrounding the chapel, everything worked together without feeling overly matched.
It’s also the kind of ring that immediately catches your eye because it’s a little unexpected.
I am always here for a wedding ring with personality.
Family Photos Before Newlywed Time
Once Briana and Nathan were officially married, we gathered their family together for photos around the chapel. Their ceremony had been so family-focused that it felt important to make sure we documented everyone while they were together. We got those group photos taken care of before sending the family on their way and turning our attention completely to the newlyweds.
And this is one of my favorite transitions during a micro wedding. Everything changes a little once the ceremony and family photos are finished. The nerves settle. The schedule feels less serious. The couple realizes, Oh. We’re married now.
And then we get to play.
Putting That Wedding Dress Train to Work
We started Briana and Nathan’s couple portraits around the chapel, and obviously we needed to take advantage of Briana’s gorgeous train. You do not bring a train like that into the forest and then fail to give it photographic attention. I don’t make the rules.
😂
With everyone else finished with their photos, Briana and Nathan could relax, snuggle, laugh, and spend a little time together without worrying about what came next. Their wedding portraits weren’t about rushing through a giant checklist of poses. They were about documenting those first little moments after the ceremony when the planning was finally over and they could simply enjoy being married.
Heading Toward the Mountains
After taking photos around the chapel, we headed toward the mountain view.
Along the way, we stopped on the gravel road for a completely different look. I love having a little variety in a wedding gallery, especially when couples have enough time to explore. The forest and chapel feel romantic and intimate, while a gravel road gives everything a more relaxed, slightly adventurous East Tennessee feeling.
Then we continued to the field. The field opened everything up, trading the close greenery of the forest for sky and mountains.
And sunshine.
SO. MUCH. SUNSHINE.
☀️😂
Early Fall, According to the Calendar
Technically, this was an early fall micro wedding. The East Tennessee weather would like to dispute that classification. That midday sun was BRIGHT, and it was still plenty warm. This is the funny thing about September weddings in the Smoky Mountains region: fall doesn’t necessarily arrive on September 1 just because pumpkin spice has returned to the coffee shops.
Sometimes September still feels very much like summer. Briana and Nathan handled the heat like champs, though. We headed into the field, found that beautiful mountain backdrop, and let them enjoy a few more newlywed moments together before wrapping everything up.
They snuggled.
They laughed.
They looked pretty darn amazing.
And somehow Briana was doing all of this in a full wedding dress while the Tennessee sun was showing absolutely no mercy.
Respect. 😂
An Early Fall Micro Wedding Full of Personal Details
Looking back at Briana and Nathan’s wedding, there were so many details that made it feel specifically theirs. There were the warm cinnamon and champagne colors that brought fall into a still-green forest. Briana’s off-the-shoulder dress and gorgeous train. Her rich autumn bouquet. That beautiful emerald ring. The candles around the chapel and the welcome sign greeting their guests.
But the things I think they’ll remember most probably aren’t the things they picked from a color palette. It’ll be Briana crying as her dad walked her toward Nathan. Their kids standing beside them. Reading vows they had written themselves. Mentioning Gary. And then watching another cat stroll down the aisle at such an absurdly perfect moment that nobody would believe we’d planned it if we tried.
Those are the pieces that turn a pretty wedding into your wedding.
Fall Didn’t Need to Be in the Trees
One of my favorite things about Briana and Nathan’s day is that it proves an early fall wedding doesn’t need peak fall foliage to actually feel like fall. The trees were still green. The temperatures were still warm. The sun was definitely still operating in summer mode, but autumn was everywhere else.
It was in the cinnamon and champagne colors. It was in Briana’s bouquet. It was in the warm candlelight. It was in the gold surrounding her pale green emerald. And ultimately, the season was just the backdrop anyway.
The important part was Briana and Nathan getting married with the people they loved beside them.
Their early fall micro wedding had happy tears, heartfelt vows, family, beautiful mountain views, a bride with one seriously gorgeous train, and a perfectly timed feline wedding crasher.
Fall may not have fully arrived in the Smoky Mountains yet. Briana and Nathan definitely brought it with them. 🍂❤️ Congratulations, you two!!
And congratulations to Nelson on absolutely nailing his cue. 😂🐈
From the Bride:
Nathan and I found each other a bit later than some (in our 30s). Nathan spent his time raising his kids and I was in and out of not go great relationships, just going through the motions. We were both actively dating but slowly giving up because things are rough out here. One day, I tried an online dating app. He messaged me and it was kind of history from there. We spent about a month or so just texting then decided to finally go on a date. After the first date, our fate was set. We fell in love fast and hard. Every hardship made sense after that, it was all leading to this.
On our first date, we meet up for dinner at a Mexican restaurant and a movie. We spent many hours at the restaurant talking and laughing, i’m actually surprised we made the movie at all. We often talk about the first date, how we were so nervous but everything felt so natural. I knew I would love him for the rest of my life after that night. Perhaps, I was crazy since it was just one date but turns out, I was right.
He proposed! We went on a family vacation in Panama City Beach. We scheduled a photo shoot for family pictures with us and the kids. He secretly contacted the company we hired and planned the proposal. I was so shocked. Having those photos at that moment, is so special!
My mother in law knew someone who got married at Chapel in the Hollow. The next day after the proposal, she sent me a link and I knew I wanted to get married there!
I’m looking forward to everything! Walking down the aisle and seeing Nathan up there with his babies that I love oh so much and being surrounded by all the people who love us and were willing to travel 6-8 hours to spend this special day with us.
We love a good binge watch on tv shows. I read and nathan will deep dive into a lego set. Our typical date nights are dinner and movie. Sometimes we will plan something different, like an activity, we love a good goofy golf course.
